Audit Reveals Inaccurate Back-to-School Prices at Mayfield Retailers

Cuyahoga County's "Back-to-School Blitz" revealed most stores to have accurate pricing, but some in the area did not live up to advertisements.

A back-to-school shopping audit revealed that a handful of stores in the Mayfield-Hillcrest area had been selling supplies that didn't match their advertisements.

According to our partners at WEWS Channel 5, Cuyahoga County recently embarked on a "back-to-school blitz," in which the Department of Consumer Affairs looked at prices at 138 stores. While 118 of the stores passed the unannounced audits, a Sun News report showed that the following stores in the area failed:

"There were no more than four items marked incorrectly at these stores," Cynthia Sich, director of the Department of Consumer Affairs, told the newspaper. "One of 25 items marked incorrectly can cause the store to be labeled as having failed."

Sich said pens and notebooks were among the items checked.

County Executive Ed FitzGerald said inaccurate prices were immediately corrected upon discovery.

Stores like Walgreen's in Mayfield Heights and Drug Mart in Highland Heights were found to have accurate pricing.
