Students in the three-week program perform outreach concerts at nursing homes, childhood centers and hospitals. Credo founder Peter Slowik, a professor of viola and string division director at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, said its mission is to teach students to be better people as well as better musicians in an atmosphere of Christian mentorship and community service.
Credo's mission statement is "Develop the gift, acknowledge the source, and respond in service."
This year, students in Credo are from 25 states, China, Canada, Singapore and Australia. Slowik said most students in Credo go on to study at leading conservatories such as Oberlin, Julliard and Eastman and then to careers in professional orchestras and as teachers.
