Deacon's Plans Approved by Architectural Review Board
Public hearing scheduled on Aug. 8 for planned expansion
The Architectural Review Board on Thursday approved design materials for the expansion of , 835 SOM Center Road.
The $2.5 million renovation project at the auto dealership would almost double the showroom space to allow for the addition of the Dodge and Ram product lines. Rezoning is needed for two residential properties that would be used to store cars and must be approved by Mayfield Village Council and by voters.
The deadline to submit the issue to the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections is 60 days prior to the Nov. 8 election.
Original plans for the Deacon's expansion featured a modern-looking storefront with a lot of glass and light gray stone. Based on input from ARB members, architect Randy Smith of Davison Smith Certo Architects added red brick columns to break up the windows and give an appearance that fits in better with area buildings.
"He took a contemporary look and made it fit in with the Western Reserve style," said James W. Deacon, dealership president.
ARB members also requested a change in the stone across the top of the building from gray to an earth tone that fits in with the color of the brick. The stone top will also contain signs for the various car lines carried at the dealership.
