DiBella's Old Fashioned Submarines Coming to Mayfield Heights

DiBella's Old Fashioned Submarines plans to open a restaurant on SOM Center Road in .

Prelimary site plans have been approved for a new 6,043-square-foot building at SOM Center and Maplewood roads that would include DiBella's and an unnamed tenant. The SOM Center drive will be right-turn only, both for entering and exiting the site. There will also be a drive on Maplewood.

Mayor Gregory Costabile noted that one Planning Commission member voted against the site plan because he'd rather see DiBella's use an existing space.

"As a city we should be happy," Costabile said at a recent meeting when council approved the Planning Commission's decision. "We continue to receive many requests from companies that want to locate in Mayfield Heights."

The DiBella's building will only have 45 out of 61 required parking spaces, but that does not take into account spaces that can be used, but can't be counted as part of the total because they are part of Coppertree apartments, Costabile said.

Dan Carducci, director of real estate for DiBella's, said the restaurant is scheduled to open in May 2012.
