Friday is Deadline for Mayfield Village Smoke Alarm Program
Residents can get photoelectric smoke alarms for $22 each

Through Friday, residents can buy a First Alert OneLink photoelectric smoke alarm for $22. There is also a buy two, get one free deal – limited to one per household. To access the purchase form, click here.
Fire Chief David R. Mohr said 41 people contacted him about buying smoke alarms the first day the program was available. As of Tuesday, 121 residents had signed up to buy 415 smoke alarms. Of those, 119 were part of the free smoke alarm deal, meaning the village is providing at least $2,618 to subsidize the program.
Lt. Mike Girbino said the model being offered is best available for the money and normally costs $35 to $75 online. He said the unit is difficult to find at local stores.
Girbino said he recommends photoelectric smoke alarms over ionization alarms because they are less prone to nuisance alarms and provide quick response to slow-burning fires that produce a lot of smoke and fast-growing fires with high heat.
An additional feature of this model of smoke alarm is that multiple units are interconnected, so that all of the units in the house sound an alarm when one is triggered.
