Grendell Has Had Busy Year with Criminal Justice Committee

Bills included one allowing handguns in bars

State Sen. Tim Grendell, R-18, noted that the Criminal Justice Committee he chairs has had a busy 2011.

In addition to amended House Bill 86, which changed Ohio's criminal sentencing and juvenile justice laws, the committee worked with House and Senate members and Attorney General Mike DeWine on legislation dealing with illegal prescription drug abuse and criminalizing use of artificial marijuana known as K2 or "spice."

Other bills recommended and passed into law addressed firearm rights by bringing Ohio into compliance with a U.S. Supreme Court ruling and firearms in liquor permit premises.

Committee co-chair is Larry Obhoff, R-Montville Township. Other members are Nina Turner, D-Cleveland; Eric Kearney, D-Cincinnati; Frank LaRose, R-Akron; Peggy Lehner, R-Kettering; Scott Oelslager, R-North Canton; Joe Schiavoni, D-Canfield; and Mark Wagoner, R-Toledo.
