Harry Potter Film Opens at Phoenix Theatres Tonight

Midnight showing expected to be a big draw

Harry Potter fans will be lining up at Phoenix Theatres Eastgate 10 in Mayfield Heights tonight for a midnight showing of the final movie in the series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2.

"This is probably the biggest movie this summer," said Scott Consaul, general manager of the theater. "Fans have been looking forward to this since the first movie was released."

In honor of the occasion, "special Harry Potter 3D glasses" will be given to those who attend the midnight viewing in 3D. The glasses resemble those worn by the main character. "They're meant to be keepsakes. It's like a thank-you for those paying the extra $3.50," Consaul said.

He said there will be enough glasses for everyone who attends the midnight 3D showing. Tickets cost $9 for the 2D version and $12.50 for the 3D film and can be purchased at the box office or online.

So far, tickets for the 2D version have exceeded those for 3D, but Consaul said there's a good chance that all theaters will be sold out for the midnight showing – even though Phoenix has the capability to feature Harry Potter in up to five auditoriums.

For those wanting to make a night of the event, the Melting Pot at Legacy Village has a Fondue and a Flick dinner special that includes tickets for the midnight Harry Potter showing.

Fans can also prepare for Deathly Hallows Part 2 by seeing the first part at 9 p.m. today at Phoenix. Tickets cost $5. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 will also be shown at 4 p.m. on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
