Highland Heights Gets 1 Bid on Gazebo Project

Submission was $12,000 more than estimate

will seek bids for its gazebo project again after rejecting the only bid, which was about $12,000 more than the $80,000 estimate, Service Director Thom Evans said.

"We would recommend that the project be rebid," Evans told City Council, which at Tuesday's meeting authorized another round of bids.

Evans said it's difficult to get bids at times, particularly for smaller projects, and the city needs to advertise in more publications.

"We have to broaden our advertising. Sometimes it's the wrong time of the year for such a project," he said.

Evans added that the delay shouldn't keep the project from being done this year, as was the wish of the Highland Heights Lions Club, which proposed the gazebo and offered to donate to it as part of its 50th anniversary this year.

Larry Nudelman, Lions Club secretary, reminded council members on Tuesday that the original intent was to build something on a smaller scale than the 30-foot gazebo that was listed in the bid package. He said the proposed gazebo would be bigger than a two-car garage.
