Mayfield Heights Councilman Retains Seat After Recount

Nino Monaco will serve remaining two years of term.

Councilman was declared the winner of the race to serve the remaining two years of the late Councilman David Sasak's term.

A recount by the Cuyahoga County Board of Elections had Monaco with 2,368 votes, 18 more than the 2,350 cast for . Those were the same numbers in official results certified by the board on Nov. 29.

An automatic recount was performed because less than 0.5 percentage points separated the candidates – Monaco had 50.19 percent of the vote and DeJohn had 49.81.

Monaco was appointed to council in August. He is building director for Pepper Pike and had been a building inspector for Mayfield Heights.
