Mayfield Heights Gas Station to Pay Penalty for Air Pollution Control Violations

EZ Energy USA fined $10,000 for stations including AM/PM at Mayfield and SOM Center.

Owners of EZ Energy USA Inc. agreed to pay the Ohio EPA $10,000 in civil penalties to settle air pollution control violations at gas stations in and Chagrin Falls. A copy of the settlement is available online.

According to EPA officials, the company failed to properly operate, maintain and test stage II vapor control systems on several pumps at the two stations, which include the AM/PM at 6680 Mayfield Rd.

The violations were documented by the Cleveland Division of Air Quality, the EPA's representative for administering state air pollution control laws in Cuyahoga County.

Gas station owners agreed to increase the frequency of inspections and testing for the next two years. Uncontrolled gasoline vapors contribute to ozone pollution and emission control regulations require gas stations to install and maintain vapor control systems to capture vapors displaced during fueling.
