Mayfield Heights Sets Road Program for 2012

The proposed road program for includes five repair projects and crack sealing on another 10 streets at an estimate cost of almost $500,000.

Full-depth concrete repairs are planned on Bonnie Lane and Landerbrook Drive. Mayfield, Lander and Oakville roads also are scheduled for repair. Bids for the road program are expected to be received in June, with work to start in July.

Mayor Gregory Costabile said most of these projects have been on the city's radar for a couple of years.

"These are streets that were put off the past year that we really need to pay attention to this year," Costabile said.

City Engineer David McCallops and URS put together the program, which calls for an estimated $418,000 in repairs and $69,000 in crack sealing.

"It's a little less than last year," McCallops said. "Last year, we did about $600,000 of work."

McCallops said road projects are chosen based not only on need, but other factors as well.

"It's a combination of factors. We see what streets need work, how much they cost and what funds are available and come up with a list," McCallops said.

The program includes the final portion of Mayfield Road to be done – the part west of Lander Road.

"It'll almost not be noticed," said Construction Manager John Bernot of URS. "The patching is ready to drive on within a few hours."

That project will be done over the course of two to three nights, mostly likely starting at 10 p.m. to lessen the impact on area businesses.

Night work also is planned on Landerbrook and Lander because of the high volume of daytime traffic on those roads.

A motion allowing the engineer to seek bids for the road program is on the agenda for tonight's City Council meeting.

The program also includes $22,207 in mobilization costs – an initial payment to get projects started – $25,908 for traffic maintenance and $8,110 in miscellaneous repairs.
