Mayfield Heights Tennis Courts to Get Makeover
Work will be done after Community Unity Days Festival

Tennis players can look forward to a smooth, new surface at the courts in . The city is spending $73,000 to repave the courts and add removable poles and nets.
"There has been no work done to the tennis courts since they went in. They get much use," Mayor Gregory Costabile said. He said the courts opened sometime in the late 1970s.
"You can really see the wear and tear to the point where it's not safe," he said.
Instead of a temporary fix, Costabile said he wanted to do things right and install new poles that can be removed if the courts are being transformed for some other use.
"They're going to be adjustable, so we can go from a tennis court to a possible volleyball court," he said.
It was hoped to get the work, expected to take a couple weeks, done before the Community Unity Days Festival. But city officials didn't want to take a chance that the space would not be available if needed for the festival.
"It didn't make sense to push it," said Costabile, who added that all rides had to be moved to the parking lot a few years ago because of wet grounds and the city might want to move food vendors to the tennis courts if that happened again.
