Mayfield Heights Woman's Homicide Caused by Blunt Impacts to Head, Trunk & Extremities

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office released preliminary autopsy results on the woman whose body was found Saturday in a Mayfield Heights apartment.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's office has officially the death of woman whose body was found Saturday in a Mayfield Heights apartment as a homicide.

The office released a statement Tuesday morning with a few details from the preliminary stages of the autopsy of 48-year-old Pamela R. Mays, whose dead body was found by Mayfield Heights Police at 1424 Golden Gate Blvd.

The cause of death was "Asphyxia by cervical compression," according to the statement from medical examiner spokesman Hugh Shannon.

Other causes listed are "blunt impacts to head, trunk, and extremities with skeletal and soft issue injuries."

Mayfield Heights officers were assisting Cleveland Police Saturday in notifying Mays that her husband, Darryle L. Burke had committed suicide in Cleveland. The medical examiner's office determined that Burke fired a gun, causing fatal skull and brain injuries.

Final autopsy results for Mays and Burke are still pending.
