Mayfield Hosts Volley for the Cure

Teams to go pink tonight against Mentor.

The girls volleyball teams will turn pink for freshman, junior varsity and varsity games today against Mentor as part of "Volley for the Cure."

Games will start at 4:30 p.m. in the Mayfield High School wood gym, 6116 Wilson Mills Rd.

There will be pink posters, balloons and T-shirts sold to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a nonprofit group supporting breast cancer research.

"Last year the team voted and chose to support the Susan Komen Foundation and raised $3,000," said Toni Canganelli, one of a group of moms coordinating the Volley for the Cure event. "It's all about prevention at any age. These girls, all women, need to know about breast cancer and carry that knowledge with them throughout their lives."

A Chinese auction, bake sale and pie-in-a-teacher's face raffle are also planned. Admission is $6 for adults, $4 for children. Pink 2011 Volley for the Cure T-shirts will be sold for $10, which includes admission.
