Mayfield Library Preliminary Site Plans Are Approved

Public hearing will be scheduled regarding special use permit.

The Planning & Zoning Commission on Monday approved preliminary site plans for the new , to be built at 502 SOM Center Rd.

"There are some materials that are going to be changed and some elevations were looked at for changes," Building Commissioner John Marrelli said. "Being a preliminary vote, this is a confidence vote for them to go forward."

Development Director Ted Esborn said the library has to work out details regarding landscaping, drainage and other issues before coming back to the commission for final approval.

The village also needs to conduct a public hearing regarding a special use permit. Although the land is zoned residential, libraries are permitted in any zoning classificiation as a special use, according to Assistant Law Director Diane Calta.

The proposed 30,000-square-foot building would sit on a 5-acre site. About 120 parking places are planned for the facility. Groundbreaking is expected to take place next spring, with the building scheduled to open in 2013.
