Fear not, motorists. Those orange barrels lining Mayfield Road in again will not be there for long.
Crews have been working the past couple of weeks patching sections of concrete from Lander Road west to the Lyndhurst border.
"There are some areas of the concrete that are badly damaged and need to be repaired," City Engineer Dave McCallops said.
He said the road was constructed in 1994 and there are areas where major repairs need to be made to the 11-inch-thick concrete base. The project is expected to cost about $40,000.
McCallops said it will be a while before the road needs to be completely resurfaced.
"I don't see that happening for another decade or so," he said.
Crews have been working on the curb lanes and should move to the inside lanes sometime this week. McCallops said most of the job should be finished within the next week, although small sections may still be blocked off at times.
"Only in a few areas and it won't be for long," he added. "The concrete cures in 24 hours."
