Mayfield Village Honors Volunteers Who Built Bridge

David Girbino organized effort for Eagle Scout project.

City Council passed a resolution honoring David Girbino of Boy Scout Troop 433 and more than two dozen volunteers who helped him build a bridge for an Eagle Scout project.

The bridge was constructed during three weekends last month in the Mayfield Village Wetlands, near the south end of North Commons Boulevard.

"A couple of years ago I was working with (naturalist) Deb Marcinski in the park and she said they needed a bridge," Girbino said.

The trail from North Commons had stopped at the water, forcing people walking along it to take a detour to get to the other side.

"There's a dam there but you can't cross it," Girbino said.

According to the resolution passed on Monday, members of the Mayfield Village Wetlands Committee had been looking to get the bridge built since the group was formed more than a decade ago.

The village paid for materials and service department workers poured the concrete footers for the bridge. Girbino supplied the engineering and labor.

"It's a pretty impressive bridge when you get out there and see it," Service Director Douglas Metzung said.

Volunteers who helped Girbino with the project were Tim Stickley, John Strasshofer, Tiffany Pham, Nate Pappenhagen, John Gall, Conar Lewis, Mark Granitto, Luke Fakaris, Charlene Strasshofer, Rebecca Pappenhagen, Michael Girbino, David Strasshofer, Julianna Kocsis, Denny Nelson, Julie Green, Alex Ashley, Charlie Kander, Drew Shaw, Dave Strasshofer, Debra Girbino, Jeesoo Kim, Kaitlyn Wene, Peter Gall, Dylan Green, Matt Granitto, Michael Fallon, Bob Pappenhagen and Maggie Stickley.
