Mayfield Village May Convert Old Trailer into Bathrooms
Building would also provide offices, storage for soccer

The Mayfield Village administration would like to convert the old police office trailer into bathrooms and offices for the Parkview soccer fields, but some council members are concerned about the cost.
Service Director Douglas Metzung estimated it would cost $25,000 to connect sanitary sewers, water and electricity for the trailer and another $20,000 to $25,000 to have the building renovated and moved from its current location near the old city hall building.
"My concern is that it's going to be a lot more than $50,000," Councilman Stephan Parker said at a caucus meeting Monday. He said that once some work has been done, the attitude is that more must be spent to finish the job properly.
Councilman William Marquardt also questioned whether new bathrooms are needed by the soccer fields.
"The port-o-potties work fine," he said.
Mayor Bruce Rinker said many people don't like using portable toilets.
"I don't think it's particularly classy having a port-o-potty out there," he added.
Recreation Director William Thomas said about 1,000 youths participate in programs that use the soccer fields and that the soccer clubs and members of the village recreation board are supportive of the trailer proposal.
He added that organizations have also said they would pay additional money for use of the building, which could also provide storage space as well as offices.
"They were very surprised at the size of the trailer," Thomas said.
Parker also questioned whether the trailer should be at the soccer fields or the baseball fields, saying it might make more sense to support the use where the village already has more money invested.
However, Metzung said that you would want a different type of building if it were to serve the baseball fields because of the equipment and bags of sand that would be stored.
"I'd like something with a concrete floor," he said.
At the end of the discussion, Thomas agreed to talk to recreation board members and get more details about the plan to address the questions and concerns of council members.
