Noisy, Early Construction Angers Resident: Gates Mills Police Blotter

The following information was supplied by the Gates Mills Police Department.

Incidents reported Aug. 13-17:

Crash on Brigham: Gates Mills Police responded to a two-car crash at 2:38 p.m. Aug. 13 on Brigham Road. No injuries were reported, but one of the drivers, a 19-year-old Chardon man, was cited for failing to yield the right of way when turning left.

Mailbox mystery: A West Hill Drive resident told police just before 8 a.m. on Aug. 15 that his mailbox had been damaged. He believed it took place overnight. Police were unable to identify a suspect.

Too early: A Burton Trail resident was awakened just after 7 a.m. Aug. 16 by loud construction noise. He called the police to complain, prompting an officer to tell the workers that they must comply with the village's construction hours ordinance.

Chief Ron Whitmer provided the following excerpt from the ordinance:

“…No outside construction shall commence on weekdays and Saturdays before 7:30 a.m. or continue past 8:00 p.m., or on Sundays before 9:00 am or past 5:00 p.m.”
