Orange Barrels Are Coming, Pending Council Approval

Highland Heights sent out bid for repairs to concrete road on July 1

Repairs are coming to six of the city's main roads later this summer, pending council approval.

At Tuesday's Committee of the Whole meeting, Service Director Thom Evans said the lowest bid for repairs came from TC Construction at $209,541, which leaves roughly $20,000 in the street fund for other repairs.

The streets getting some TLC include: Alpha Drive, Bishop Road, the Miner and Highland roads intersection, the Aberdeen Boulevard and Miner Road intersection, Wilson Mills Road from Lander Road to Interstate 271 and Miner Road near Wilson Mills.

"We focused on the main roads this year," Evans said. "We've been patching them with hot patch for several years now."

Council President Scott Mills asked whether the list could be expanded to include side roads and the portions of roads leading into developments. Evans said that while it is possible, the city would have to ask for a change order to include those roads, within budget.

"Next on our priority list would be more work on the main roads," Evans said. "We tried to pare the quantity of repairs back to fit the budget, but definitely more work could be done."

Council members asked Evans to come back to the table with a list of alternate repairs using the $20,000 left in the budget.
