Police Blotter: Faulty Lights Set Mailbox on Fire

Information supplied by the Gates Mills Police Department.

A 911 caller at 7:28 p.m. Jan. 22 said a mailbox was on fire on West Hill Drive. Police and fire personnel were sent to the scene and the fire was extinguished. An investigation revealed that electric lights on the mailbox malfunctioned and caused the fire.

Police were called at 10:50 p.m. Jan. 25 about a car in a ditch on Woodstock Road. The driver, a 24-year-old Gates Mills woman, was intoxicated. Police arrested her and she was charged with failure to maintain reasonable control of her vehicle, operating a vehicle while intoxicated and having an open container of an alcohol in a motor vehicle. She was released from jail after posting bond.

A caller at 12:44 a.m. Jan. 28 reported an accident on SOM Center Road. Police said a car went off the road and hit a pole. The driver, a 33-year-old Euclid woman, was not injured. She was charged with failure to maintain reasonable control of her vehicle.

A Hillside Lane woman called at 3:30 p.m. Jan. 29 to report a disturbance between her and her ex-husband. Officers spoke to both of them about the disagreement, which involved property ownership rights. The issue was resolved and the ex-husband left the property.
