Police Blotter: Caller Wanted to Know Why Woman Didn't Believe Grandson Scam

A Larchmont Drive woman called police at 12:40 p.m. Oct. 12 after receiving a call from someone claiming to be her grandson. He said he was in a car accident in Mexico and needed money. She didn't believe him and hung up. He called her back 15 minutes later to ask why. She wanted police to follow up with the phone company to get the caller's identity.

A white compact car was following a man dressed all in black at 10:32 p.m. Oct. 12 on Westerham and a caller thought this was suspicious. The man was looking for his dog and was leaving treats out for the animal.

Someone filled a trash bin overnight at a Parkland Boulevard apartment building, a caller told police at 7:36 a.m. Oct. 12. There was paperwork with the person's identity in the trash. Police talked to the man, who apparently had the wrong trash bin.

A Sunset Road man said he was sitting on his porch at 8:12 p.m. Oct. 11 when a red Dodge Neon came down his driveway. He said it appeared that the car drove through backyards from Lander Road.

A man tried to steal several bottles of liquor at 6:25 p.m. Oct. 11 at CVS on Mayfield Road. He paid for one small item and concealed the bottles. He turned over the merchandise to police and the store manager did not want to file a police report.

A Mayfield Road resident told police at 4:40 p.m. Oct. 11 that a neighbor's pit bull tried to bite her husband. A witness told police that the man was chasing the dog and attempted to tackle it when it bit him. Police said the animal warden was going to make his report. The dog had gotten loose from Eastwood.
