Police Blotter: Grandson Scam Tried by Caller With a 'Cold'

A Drury Court woman called police at 12:57 p.m. July 29 after getting a "scam call from grandson." The caller said he was her grandson and claimed he had a cold. She checked with her daughter and the grandson was in his office. The woman said she didn't send any money and police told her to hang up if the person called back.

A Golden Gate Boulevard woman called at 1:24 p.m. July 31 and said cars use the street as a "speedway."

A small apricot-colored poodle without a collar was found at 8:45 p.m. July 30 at the intersection of Ridgebury and SOM Center roads and brought to the police station. The woman who found the dog checked about two hours later to see if the animal had been claimed and took the dog home rather than having it placed in the city kennel. She told police she would provided foster home for the dog until the owner made contact.

A woman living on Mayland Avenue said she was leaving home when a white pickup with "AAA" markings pulled into her driveway up to the garage. She asked the man what he wanted and he wouldn't answer or say what address he was looking for and she thought that was suspicious.

A Golden Gate Boulevard woman called at 4 a.m. July 30 and said she just got home and found someone had broken into her apartment.

An elderly woman came to the police station at 6:45 p.m. July 29 and said she received a check and a man called and said he would come down here and kill her if she didn't send the check back.

A woman was arrested at Golden Gate Plaza at 4:37 p.m. July 28 and charged with petty theft.
