Police Blotter: Scammer Claimed To Be From Ohio Lottery

A Genesee Avenue man called police Jan. 27 to report that he was getting calls from a man trying to get him to send money. The scammer claimed to be with the Ohio Lottery Powerball and wanted him to get a Green Dot debit card.

A resident called on Jan. 27 to report suspected drug activity at a Fruitland Avenue house.

Management at Eastgate reported at 2:27 a.m. Jan. 27 that all of the east side of the shopping center were without power. Police said a CEI crew was already working on the problem.

A Crestwood Road resident called at 11:11 p.m. Jan. 26 and said someone was honking a car horn and banging on the door at a neighbor's house for 15 minutes. Police said there was an argument and a resident locked the door so the other person couldn't get in.

An Ulta Beauty employee called at 1:31 p.m. Jan. 26 to report that someone cut tags off of several expensive bottles of cologne. The theft was discovered on a review of surveillance tapes.

An man appeared to be talking to himself while running at 7:58 p.m. Jan. 25 on Mayfield Road. He was also stopping people in the Speedway lot and asking for a ride. Police were unable to find the man.

A CVS employee called police at 2:24 p.m. Jan. 25 after reviewing a videotape and seeing a woman stealing vodka. Police told the woman that she was not allowed to enter any CVS or she would be charged with trespassing.

A caller at 3:29 p.m. Jan. 24 said he was following a white truck that was dropping gravel every time it hit a bump on Interstate 271 southbound. It was a salt truck and police said the salt did not damage the man's car.

Mayfield Village police called at 12:59 p.m. Jan. 24 about a call that police department received concerning an unlocked business on Mayfield Road in Mayfield Heights. The woman was concerned because the posted hours said it should be closed and anyone could walk inside and steal products. Police checked and the address given was for a vacant building.
