Police Blotter: Woman Chose Hospital Over Jail

A caller at 2:27 p.m. Sept. 24 said he was following a woman on Interstate 271 who could barely keep her car on the road. She exited on Wilson Mills Road and crossed over lanes to pull into a drug store lot, hitting sandbags on the way. He said she was in the lot and could barely walk straight. The woman had a facial injury and was given the choice of going to jail or a hospital – she choose the hospital. She was taken to Hillcrest Hospital and her car was towed.
A Sandalwood Drive resident called police at 7:18 p.m. Sept. 23 because she thought she might have been scammed. A man knocked on her door and said he was selling encyclopedias for the Akron Children's Hospital and Ohio State University and asked for $110. She declined and he asked for $50. She wound up giving him $20 and was concerned because he gave her a receipt indicating she gave $55 in cash.
A Ridgebury Boulevard woman called police at 4:59 p.m. Sept. 23 because of an unruly son, who could be heard screaming in the background for her to hang up the phone. The boy calmed down – he was upset because he wanted to play Nintendo Wii before doing his homework.
Two callers told police about a lost beagle that was on the entrance ramp to Interstate 271 at 3:57 p.m. Sept. 22. The dog wouldn't let an officer approach and took off into Highland Heights.
