Police Blotter: Woman Resists Claiming Phony Sweepstakes 'Prize'

An Algiers Drive woman was called on June 3 by someone who identified himself as being from Publishers Clearinghouse. He said she won a sweepstakes, but would need to send $250 via Western Union to a Queens, NY, address in order to receive the prize. The woman called Publishers Clearinghouse, which told her that is not how the company does business. She didn't give the phony caller any information, but wanted police to know about the incident.

A caller wanted to talk to police at 9:29 p.m. June 3 about an old friend who was telling nurses at Hillcrest Hospital about crimes the friend committed when he was younger. The man told the caller that he was worried that a nurse might slip something into his drink for all the things he had done in the past. Police said the man was going through detox and was confused.

Plastic silverware, tablecloths, balloons and napkins were stolen from a party center on Marsol Road on June 3. A caller said she rented the center for a baby shower and set it up the night before, only to return and find everything gone.

Two girls were caught shoplifting at 3:07 p.m. June 3 at CVS, 5901 Mayfield Road. They were taken to the police station and their mother was called to pick them up.

A real estate agent said on June 1 that a house for sale on Summit Drive was broken into and there was damage done to the interior.
