Police Blotter: Woman Told $48,000 Check was Cashed on Her Bank Account

The Forest Acres Police Department in Columbia, SC, called at 1:10 p.m. Sept. 21 to report suspicious activity at a bank there. An elderly man at the bank had two checks from a woman and recently cashed one for $48,000. He was back at the bank to cash the other, which was for $50,000. A teller told him the bank didn't have that much money and he would have to come back another day, but the man was urgent to get the cash. Police talked to the Washington Boulevard woman listed on the checks and she did not give permission to the suspect to cash her checks. She said she would contact Forest Acres police.

A living room motion alarm was set off at 3:43 a.m. Sept. 22 on Crestwood Road. A keyholder met police at the house and everything was OK. Police said a cat might have set off the alarm.

A woman reported at 1:58 p.m. Sept. 21 that her purse was stolen while she was at the state driver's testing location at Golden Gate Plaza. An employee called at 4:55 p.m. after finding the purse and it was returned to the woman.

A pizza delivery driver said he was making a delivery at 9:55 p.m. Sept. 20 on Marsol Road and a woman in an apartment there threatened to hurt him and get him fired. Police told both persons to stay away from each other.

A school district employee called police at 9:42 a.m. Sept. 20 and asked for special attention by the middle school on SOM Center Road. A woman and a man at the bus stop there were taunting the driver and kids getting on the bus. The woman also had eggs in her hands, but did not throw any.

A woman told police that a Jeep or some other sport utility vehicle hit a concrete barrier at 6:48 a.m. Sept. 20 at Golden Gate Plaza. Police said the driver was not injured and a tow truck was on the way.
