Prescription Drugs to be Collected on Saturday
Police stations to serve as drop-off sites

UPDATED April 28, 9:28 a.m. with corrected drop-off point.
Area residents can take expired and unwanted prescription drugs to police stations on Saturday for proper disposal.
Collections will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the following police stations: Highland Heights, 5827 Highland Road; Mayfield Village, 620 SOM Center Road; and Gates Mills, 1470 Chagrin River Road; and at the Ross DeJoh Community Center, 6306 Marsol Road, Mayfield Heights.
Kris Fleck, coordinator of the Hillcrest Drug and Alcohol Education Coalition, said the pills will be collected by police officers and given to officials from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration for disposal.
"The idea is to keep your cabinet free of medicines you don't need," she said. "A lot of people don't know what to do with medicines they haven't used up. Most people really don't want to keep the drugs."
She said leftover drugs can be an attractive nuisance to children and it's better to remove drugs that are not needed.
Fleck added that police officers are the only people allowed to possess medicines that were prescribed to others.
