Retired Detective Honored by Mayfield Village
Resolution commends Don Smith for more than 50 years of service.

was back in to be honored by village officials for his more than 50 years of service.
Council presented "Smitty" on Monday with a resolution commending him for his dedication in serving as a police officer, detective and sergeant from 1961 until his retirement last month.
"Smitty's service to the residents of Mayfield Village and surrounding communities is hereby acknowledged and appreciated. He will be missed by his fellow employees, other police officers in the area, Mayfield Village residents and business owners," the resolution stated.

A Mayfield Heights resident, Smith graduated from Cuyahoga County Police School and served as a county deputy for five years before being hired in Mayfield Village.
As detective sergeant, he was in charge of the detective bureau. He also served as coordinator of the Suburban Police Anti-Crime Network and worked on the Suburban Auto Theft Strike Force, Ohio Organized Crime Auto Theft Task Force and Cuyahoga County Crime Stoppers Investigator's Task Force.
