Retiring Highland Heights Police Officer Honored for Service

Mark D. Hoehnen joined the police department in 1978

Retiring police officer Mark D. Hoehnen was honored with a Resolution of Appreciation from the city.

"He has given many, many years of great service to the city," Mayor Scott Coleman said in presenting the resolution at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

Coleman said Hoehnen joined the police department on May 30, 1978, and retired on May 21, 2011. He was promoted to sergeant in 1992 and in 1994 Hoehnen started running the department's physical fitness program. He became jail administrator in 2000.

"It's been a real honor to serve this community," Hoehnen said. "I don't have one complaint. I really mean that."

At the same meeting, Coleman announced that Dennis E. McGrath was being promoted to sergeant to fill the vacancy created by Hoehnen's retirement.
