Title Boxing Club Offers Women Tough Workouts at Alpha Place

Led by a man who said he became addicted to the business concept before bringing it here, Title Boxing Club offers fitness memberships at the Shoppes at Alpha Place.

Though its customer base largely consists of women, a dark period of distress led to Title Boxing Club franchise owner Casey Wandell's addiction to the business' concept and its eventual opening in Highland Heights.

"I went through a really bad divorce and took the path that so many people take, trying to drink and eat my pain away," he said. "Next thing you know, I gotta lose 50 pounds — I was a total joke.

"A woman friend of mine brought me to a Title Boxing Club in Columbus ... I started going religiously, and I was addicted."

Wandell, who previously operated mexican restaurants and worked in medical sales, became so enthused by the concept that he traveled to Overland Park, Kansas to sell himself as a viable franchisee. The visit went well, and a broker soon identified the Shoppes at Alpha Place as an available site.

Title opened on Jan. 1 and has amassed 750 members since then despite Wandell, a Lima, Ohio native, having never been to the Cleveland area up to that point.

He and his eight trainers are all about empowering women through vigorous workouts at the 6,300-square-foot facility, but men shouldn't write it off as "girly," Wandell said.

"It's as nasty a workout as you'll ever get," he said. "My first class, I puked three times."
