Tri-City Consortium on Aging Adds Yoga

Classes are at noon Fridays in Mayfield Heights

Tri-City Consortium has now added yoga to its stable of fitness classes offered.

"Yoga is brand new to us," said Therese Grida, Tri-City Consortium on Aging program and nutrition coordinator. "I feel that there's a lot of interest in health and wellness classes."

Gentle Hatha Yoga, taught by certified yoga instructor Sue Kamensky, is from noon to 1 p.m. Fridays at the Ross DeJohn Community Center, 6306 Marsol Road, . Tri-City serves Mayfield Heights, Highland Heights, South Euclid and Lyndhurst.

Classes are open to people of all ages, but are designed so that anyone can participate regardless of fitness level. Cost for yoga is $6 per class or $26 for five weeks. The current session runs through Oct. 28. For information, call 216-650-4029.

In Gentle Hatha Yoga, the focus on a solid yoga foundation – awareness of breath, the therapeutic aspects of poses and an exploration of the chakras.

"Yoga is for everybody," said Kamensky. "People can learn alignment and deepen their practice. We tailor to their needs."

Kamensky said yoga is helpful as a stress release and for physical strength, balance and flexibility.

"It's more of a wellness for your mind, setting your mind and body as one," she said.
