Mayfield Village Council gives approval to seek proposals for project

Several residents attended the Mayfield Village Council meeting Monday to express support for a plan to convert the old police officer trailer into bathrooms and offices at the Parkview soccer fields.
Council voted 4-0, with three members absent, to allow Service Director Douglas Metzung to get proposals for the project. Metzung estimated it would cost $25,000 to connect sanitary sewers, water and electricity for the trailer and another $20,000 to $25,000 to have it renovated and moved from its location near the old city hall building.
Councilman Thomas Marrie said people don't want to use the portable toilets that are at the fields and renovating the trailer was a good way to affordably add bathrooms compared to a brand new building.
"To build it would be extremely expensive and it probably wouldn't be done at that point," he said.
Earlier this month, Councilmen Stephen Parker and William Marquardt had concerns about the cost. Both were absent on Monday, but residents still spoke at the meeting to show their support and encourage council to fund the project.
"Our fields are tremendous. Everyone loves playing on our soccer fields. Then you turn around and see the port-a-potties," said Susan Chiancone, secretary of the Mayfield Soccer Club.
Peg Kerver said it looks bad to outsiders to see the portable toilets by the fields.
"They are a huge eyesore and they are a reflection on the city," she said.
Meg Stifler said her 12-year-old son plays on a travel soccer team and would rather go into the woods than use the portable toilets.
"It's time to make the fields a pleasant place to come to by adding some basic human needs," she said.
