Highland Heights detective retires

Sgt. Gary McKee, a 33-year veteran of the Highland Heights Police Department, retired on March 18. He and partner Dennis Matejcic investigated the Rosemarie Essa murder case.

State budget cuts Local Government Fund

The budget proposed by Gov. John Kasich cuts the Local Government Fund by 25 percent in 2012. That amounts to a $200,000 loss to Mayfield Heights and $30,000 loss to Highland Heights.

Highland Heights may conduct flood plain study

Highland Heights officials are considering spending $50,500 on a study to determine exactly where the flood plain is in the city. They are disputing a map released in December that resulted in 50 homeowners being told they need to buy flood insurance.

Rally held against Senate Bill 5

Opponents of a bill that would restrict collective bargaining rights of public employees in Ohio turned out for rallies in Akron and Strongsville.
