What Would You Want in Mayland Plaza?

People continually point to the underutilized Mayland Shopping plaza as a place for potential economic development.

The plaza was a focus in the 2004 master plan, and the things being said about filling the numerous vacancies today mirror those said nine years ago.

The old master plan reads:

 The site, actually an arrangement of seven strip shopping buildings, was repeatedly cited by community representatives as a location that reflected poorly on the community and should be targeted for redevelopment

The property came up multiple times during Mayfield Heights City Council's recent interviews for the vacant seat.

"A huge missed opportunity is what's going on in the Mayland Plaza. It is a huge, huge missed opportunity. It is approximately 17 acres of commercial and retail property that under-utilized to I don't even know what percent. It is 60 to 70 percent vacant right now," candidate Benjamin Stocum said when asked to discuss ideas he would bring to the table to increase revenues.

More years will pass before new developments are seen there, but references to the property in recent council meetings could indicate that plans may soon be created. If that happens, what would you like to see in the plaza?
