Walsh University will host a marching band and choir open house on Saturday, November 19 from 9 a.m. to noon in the Betzler Auditorium at Walsh University, 2020 East Maple Street. Registration is required at http://www.walsh.edu/audition.htm
Audition participants are to bring instruments and voices.
During the audition, band participants will be expected to:
•    Play two scales of their choice
•    Perform an excerpt from their high school band’s repertoire
•    Sight reading
Choir participants will be expected to:
•    Sing through a simple song in different keys (My Country Tis of Thee or Amazing Grace)
•    Pitch memory drills
•    Elementary sight singing (Singers can bring in a prepared song of their choice, but this is not required.)
Walsh’s new marching band is now recruiting quality musicians, and Walsh’s highly regarded choral program is looking for new singers. A limited number of scholarships will be available for entering freshman.
Under the direction of band leader Mark Zartman, the Walsh University Marching Band made its historic debut in the Fall 2011. Â Future plans include the creation of a jazz band for smaller musical concerts.
The Walsh University Chorale is a performing ensemble which studies, rehearses, and presents sacred and secular music from major musical periods. Performances traditionally include a Christmas Program and a major Spring Concert. Additionally, the choir enhances various academic and religious ceremonies and traditions which occur throughout the academic year.
