Walsh Justice and Peace Presents Justice for Immigrants Week Feb. 6-10

The Walsh for Justice and Peace (WJP) Club will honor Justice for Immigrants Week

Feb. 6-10, 2012 with several campus events including a panel discussion on immigration on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 7:30 pm, in the Barrette Business and Community Center. 

Walsh for Justice and Peace is a student organization that is grounded in Catholic social teaching and the mission of the University.  Members work to alleviate the political, social, and economic injustices present in the world today. The club’s goals are to increase awareness within the Walsh community about contemporary social justice issues, and execute projects that actively contribute to the development of a socially just society both locally and globally.

The week’s events will culminate with a Thursday, Feb. 9 panel discussion on “Immigration: Myths and Realities” in the Barrette Business and Community Center.  This event is free and open to the public.

  • Juan Contreras, Professor of Communications, Walsh University
  • Donald Wallenfang, Professor of Theology, Walsh University
  • Jose Cajigas, Professor of Geography, Akron University

Additional campus events will include face painting, a t-shirt give-away, a special screening of the movie “Dying to Live” and a Spanish Mass on Wednesday, February 8 at 11:30 am in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Chapel.
