football player Brandon Mingo was the recipient of the Joshua David Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship Fund, which honors Joshua Zimmerman, a 2001 Walsh University graduate and former football captain who lost his life in a biking accident in August of 2003. The student scholarship fund was established at Walsh University through a gift made by Thomas and Jackie Zimmerman in honor of their son Joshua.
Scholarship recipient Brandon Mingo, a graduate of McKinley High School, in Canton, is a junior majoring in communications. He plays as a defensive back for the Cavaliers.Â
"We created the Joshua David Zimmerman Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of our son, Joshua, and are proud to see it continue to help student athletes," said Thomas Zimmerman. "Joshua loved attending and playing football at Walsh University, and we want to help other students achieve the same goals as our son."
Joshua Zimmerman earned four letters for the Walsh University Cavaliers as a defensive lineman. The 6-3, 247-pound Zimmerman played for the Cavs from 1997 to 2000. Zimmerman was a graduate of Lake High School, where he earned honorable mention All-Federal League honors.
