Are Bricks Best? Patch Viewers Show Overwhelming Support for Brick Gateway Signs

When presented with three city entryway sign options, our viewers voted for the brick pillars in overwhelming numbers

When asked "which entryway sign suits our city," North Canton Patch viewers .

Sixty-eight percent of those who voted in the poll chose the all-brick option with a North Canton "NC" logo and embellished top. Twenty-six percent chose a mix of brick and stone, while just five percent chose the all-stone fixture.

Councilman Mark Cerreta had June 18 told us this week that he was pleased with the response he saw on North Canton Patch. But there's still much more opinion-gathering to be done before the city settles on an entryway sign, he said.

And more options could still be thrown into the mix. For instance, a few Patch viewers suggested a brick sign with a stone base.

"We'll be open to seeing new ideas as they present themselves," Cerreta said. "This is about the community choosing, not us throwing out three choices and it's those or nothing."

He said the stone option may not have been a favorite among Patch readers, but it's gone over well when he's presented it at other meetings around the city.

"I think people need to consider there's a lot of new stone (in the city), too," Cerreta said.

He reiterated the entryway signs won't be paid for with city money.Β The signs cost about $5,000 a piece, and Cerreta said they'll be sponsored or funded by associations, companies, foundations or individual community members.

"It's really exciting for the city, and I think a lot of people have been waiting for this," he said.

Cerreta will continue to present the options at meetings and to community groups throughout the summer and said he will have a better idea of which option a majority of the community wants by the end of summer.

New city signage was just one of several changes community members said they wanted to see duringΒ . The Master Plan is a road map to future improvements within the city.
