Garbage Man Gets Leg Stuck Under Own Truck

A North Lawrence man was injured Friday morning after the garbage truck he was riding in that day rolled over his leg.

took Eric C. Garrett, 18, employed by J & J Refuse, to Mercy Medical Center in Canton about 7 a.m. that day. A hospital official said Garrett was treated in the emergency room and released later that day.

Lt. Steve Wilder said Garrett, who was working with another person Friday, got out of the truck to empty trash cans into the back. The men were in the 1000 block of Skyline Circle SE.

“I believe the truck shifted out of park,” Wilder said, adding it briefly pinned Garrett under the truck.

Wilder was unsure of Garrett’s injuries other than an injury to one leg.

Police recorded the incident with a traffic crash report.
