North Canton Jaycees Collect Donations for Homeless Veterans

The North Canton Jaycees are opening up an opportunity for the community to help its local veterans. 

The Jaycees have kicked off their third annual Freedom House Donation Drive in conjunction with Spee-D-Foods, and the drive benefits the Freedom House, a shelter in Kent that houses homeless veterans. The Freedom House is in need of supplies to continue serving local veterans. 

“Our veterans have given a lot to our country through their service, and with the North Canton Jaycees Freedom House Donation Drive we are able to serve and honor them” says Erica Blocher, coordinator of the donation drive.

Needed include:

• 55-gallon garbage bags
• Gas cards, bowling and movie passes
• Coffee and sugar
• Large coffee filters
• Paper towels
• Books and magazines
• Nonperishable and canned food items
• Pillows and pillow cases
• Comforters, sheets (double extra long)
• Wash cloths and towels
• Laundry detergent
• Spices, pepper, cooking oil
• Energy-saving light bulbs (60 watts)
• Foil, saran wrap, Ziploc bags

This year’s drive began Oct. 1 and runs through Nov. 9. Donations can be dropped off at the North Canton Chamber of Commerce. 

Local Spee-D-Foods locations throughout Canton will also collect monetary donations as well as nonperishable food items. The North Canton Jaycees look forward to delivering the collected items on Veteran’s Day.
