Caller Spots Would-Be Teen Car Thieves

Shaker Heights Police arrest two teens they say they caught in the act

The Shaker Heights Police Department supplied the following information. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

A resident helped police catch two teens who they believe were trying to steal a car in Shaker Heights.

The person called police at 8:50 p.m. on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31 and reported that they saw two males in a parking lot near the 2500 block of Kemper Road. The teens were dropped off by another car and they walked around the lot, wiping snow off of parked cars and looking inside.

Then, the caller said, they broke into a car.

When police arrived, they found the teens as well as a car with a steering column damaged where they say the boys were trying to start it without a key.

The two 17-year-old boys were arrested and charged with attempted grand theft of a motor vehicle.
