Horseshoe Lake Picnic Reservations Open Next Week
Hopeful patrons camp outside Shaker Heights Recreation Center at dawn for coveted free pavilion reservations

Staff at the Shaker Heights Recreation Center expect to see a line form outside their doors by 6 a.m. next Tuesday.
But the rec center isn't selling Justin Bieber tickets.
March 19 is the first day residents can reserve Horseshoe Park's free 175-person-capacity pavilion. And by the end of that day, said Andrea McNeil, program coordinator and administrative assisntant, 80 or 90 percent of the warm weather weekends will be full.

Why the mad rush for the spots? Simple.
"It's a very nice park and it's free," she said.

In-person reservations will be taken beginning March 19 at 8:30 a.m. You can start making reservations online or on the phone March 20.
Reservations are usually given only for the large pavilion, though exceptions may be made to allow larger groups to reserve both. Two weeks advance notice is required. Reservations are not accepted for Memorial Day, July 4 or Labor Day.Â
The pavilion is available seven days a week from May 28 to September 1 and for weekends in September.
