As thunderstorms continue this afternoon, more than 1,200 FirstEnergy customers in the city are without electricity.
The outages are part of a large-scale issue across Northeast Ohio. FirstEnergy spokesman Chad Self said about 8,500 customers in Northeast Ohio have been affected by an issue at a substation that services the southeast side of the region.
The company's outage map shows shows that 1,295 customers in Shaker Heights are without power. Other cities affected include Cleveland, Bedford and Maple Heights.
"At this point we're still trying to assess the situation," Self said. "We have dispatched crews."
