The candidates, incumbents and issues that will be affecting Shaker Heights, Cuyahoga County, the state and country

As we look ahead to November’s elections, Shaker Heights Patch is devoted to bring you the information you need about every race in town. Here's our start on the candidates, issues and resources we'll be covering as November draws near. Bookmark this page for updates.

Income tax increase: The hottest governmental issue in will be decided well before the November election. The city will hold a special election on Aug. 7 in which voters if they want to raise the income tax rate. We've discussed both sides and will continue to do so leading up to the election.

President Barack Obama: As the president vies for a second term, we'll bring you coverage of his appearances in Northeast Ohio and announcements that affect this area. He spoke at Cuyahoga Community College , and it certainly won't be his last in this vital region. His campaign has regional offices on Shaker Square, and in two Patch towns — Mentor and Kent. The Cuyahoga County Democratic Party will surely host events as November nears. The party's Shaker Heights Ward leader is Lisa Payne Jones, and we'll be sure to check in with her over the next few months.

GOP Presidential Nominee Mitt Romney: Northeast Ohio will hear from Mitt Romney on Sunday during an appearance in Brunswick. We'll also hear from those on the front lines who will help Romney in his mission to unseat the president. The Cuyahoga County Republican Party's calendar shows no scheduled events in Shaker Heights, but check the calendar for locations of dozens of socials, receptions and more in Northeast Ohio.

Also, be sure to follow our GOP blogger and humorist, , as the race heats up. He always manages to keep the conversation flowing on Patch sites across the region.

Sherrod Brown: Brown is a democratic incumbent U.S. Senator and is known as one of the more liberal Congressmen in the nation. He announced a duo of of job-training initiatives in other Northeast Ohio communities on Thursday and should be returning to the area soon to push lower student loans, green energy and other campaign issues. We'll also keep you up to date with local groups like the Shaker Heights Democratic Club, who will be pushing for Brown's re-election.

Brown also for Patch, and you never know when he'll show up on our site again.

Josh Mandel: The current state treasurer and a Beachwood High School graduate, Mandel hopes his campaign to end wasteful spending will land him enough votes to win the U.S. Senate seat held by Brown. He made an in April, and we'll be around for his upcoming appearances in Patch towns. Heights GOP will also host events that we'll let you know about.
