Shaker Heights Schools Could See $1.6 Million Boost in State Funding

Governor John Kasich's school funding proposal would give the district over $14 million in 2015

Shaker Heights City Schools could see nearly $800,000 more in state funding per year through 2015.

The district is expected to get just about $13.4 million in 2014 and $14.2 million in 2015 from state funding, according to preliminary numbers from the Ohio Department of Education.

These numbers are from Gov. John Kasich's budget proposal, and will likely change at least a little as the state legislature haggles out a final budget deal.

According to the proposal, Shaker Heights stands to receive $765,000 more in 2014 than in 2013, when the district received $12.6 million, an increase of 6 percent.

In 2015 the state is expected to dish out $14.2 million to the district, another 6 percent boost, resulting in another $794,000.
