Shaker Senior Named Maltz Essay Finalist

Shaker Heights High had two student in the Top 25 of the "Stop The Hate" essay contest.

One Shaker Heights High School senior has made it through to the final round of a prominent contest.

Evelyn Ting was named a finalist in the fifth annual Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! essay contest, according to a press release.

Ting is one of 10 students from around the area remaining in the contest.

The Top 10 finalists will now compete for a total of $100,000 in scholarships and prizes. 

The finalists compete for three, four-year college scholarships (one each $50,000, $25,000 and $15,000) by giving oral presentations at an awards ceremony on May 2 at Severance Hall.

Ana Sinicariello was named as a semi-finalist, finishing in the Top 25.

Their essays address a variety of issues, from living with alopecia, mental illness to LGBT issues and economic diversity and offer heartfelt and innovative solutions.
