Vision for Vacancies: What Should Fill Spaces at Shaker Plaza?

Residents and Shaker Heights officials all long for Shaker Plaza to return to a thriving retail hub.

It will certainly play a vital role in the formation of the upcoming Van Aken District project. While businesses like have popped up at the plaza, there are still a few vacancies that need to be filled.

Spaces at 20116, 20140 and 20144 Van Aken Blvd. all need tenants. The space at 20144 sits right next to Cleveland Running Co., .

Steven Roth, a senior vice president at Beachwood-based Guggenheim Commercial Real Estate Group, said he's proud that the plaza added three tenants in the last 12 months. Still, the company has having difficulties finding "credit-worthy tenants" to fill plaza vacancies.

"We're actively seeking them," Roth said. "Things are different than they had been. It's challenging.

"We're always talking to people, but we have nothing in the works immediately."
