13-Year-Old Crashes Stolen Car In Solon, Flashes Gun: Police

Police said a teenager crashed a stolen car on Aurora Road before running away from police and flashing a firearm.

SOLON, OH — A stolen SUV, driven by a 13-year-old, crashed on Aurora Road on Thursday, police announced. The teenager is now accused of brandishing a firearm in an attempt to steal another car.

A license plate reader camera identified a stolen Toyota 4-Runner near Harper Road and US 422 on Thursday afternoon. Officers caught up to the SUV as it started driving west on Aurora Road and police tried to stop the vehicle.

Instead, the SUV sped towards Aurora and Harper roads, police said. There, the SUV crashed into another vehicle. The driver of the stolen SUV, the 13-year-old, then hopped out and ran toward a nearby office plaza, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 41-year-old man from Twinsburg, suffered an arm injury due to the crash but was treated and released at the scene.

The 13-year-old then pulled a handgun out and tried to carjack a passerby, but the passerby drove off without being harmed, according to police.

Officers scoured the area for 105 minutes, a police spokesperson said, and found the suspect outside of Pressco Technology on Aurora Road. Local businesses were told to shelter in place while police searched the plaza.

During the hunt, a police dog found the suspect and bit him on the leg, police said. The suspect had to be taken to a hospital for treatment.

The suspect was identified as a 13-year-old from Cleveland, police said. He had a semi-automatic handgun in his possession, police added.

The 13-year-old could face charges for receiving stolen property and attempted robbery in Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court, police said.

Thursday's incident is still under investigation.
