On Friday afternoon, police spotted a stolen Ford Fusion driving down Solon Road. Officers attempted to stop the car, throwing on their lights and indicating the vehicle should pull over. Instead, the car sped up and briefly eluded police, according to a Solon spokesperson.

The car was spotted again on Solon Road and police again tried to stop the vehicle. The driver again fled from officers, police said, so Stop Sticks were used to prevent the car from getting away.

The driver attempted to swerve around the Stop Sticks and lost control of the car, police said, and hit two other cars on the road.

Three people were hurt when the car hit their cars: a 37-year-old man from North Bloomfield, an 89-year-old Chagrin Falls man and an 85-year-old Chagrin Falls woman. The woman was taken to Hillcrest Hospital with serious injuries. She later died from her injuries, the medical examiner confirmed.

The 89-year-old man and North Bloomfield man were both treated at a local hospital for their injuries.

Two people inside the car were taken into custody: a 19-year-old Berea man and a 20-year-old Cleveland man. A loaded handgun was found in the car, police said.

Additional information on the suspects will be released when formal charges have been filed, police said.
